Rant on Work
Until recently, the story of women and work went something like this. When a man went to work, “his” children were cared for by their mother. But when a woman went to work “her” children were cared for by “someone else”. That was the female dilemma and it was “her” problem. Corporations that stuck with the old tune lost their choirs and some of their best voices.
The fact is that: children belong to the family; both parents are committed to their care; it does, as Hilary says, “take a village” and so… it’s time for slumbering corporations and firms wake to a new melody and remember that you need your sopranos and altos.
Child rearing is a part of the family melody, but for women it’s not the finale. We are smart, hard working, less ego driven, live longer and have the ability to work longer and when we’re confident that we’re all on the same page, can multitask our way to great results.
Know any companies that join women in singing, “We shall overcome….”? Who can be certified female friendly? Or with some tweaking could be? Share them with me. I’m all ears.
