What's So Common About Sense?
Everything should be relatively easy because common sense should tell you how to make the best decisions. Well things are not that simple when lack of education, expertise or experience leads you elsewhere. Graduate from college, get a good job, become a high achiever and this will guarantee you a promotion, but as in everything there are exceptions to the norm.
There are also efficient ways to navigate through your career but what if you haven't discovered them yet. Success is measured by the quality of the things you produce but often there is a struggle before the glory of achieving quantifiable results. Teamwork is a vital element in collectively making a difference, but often there is still a team member who doesn't understand there is no I in team.
This is the reality of the Real World that no particular college course may have prepared you for. I spent the first five years after college just doing my job and not knowing the indicators of when to plan a career move or how to ask the right questions. You may ask did I not have the common sense to know that I needed to take control in seeking my own destiny. Well I would say I had become unconsciously competent and comfortable doing the day to day tasks in the same job.
I now ponder a lingering question because I often hear that I should have known better, “What's so common about sense?"

Chimps...I'm Working With CHIMPS!
Common sense isn't a given or something you are born with. To me common senses has to be worked at daily and achieved through making those "dumb" mistakes. There is instinct but when you are new at something common sense isn't always a key factor in helping you grow and succeed. Your common sense is going to always be based on personal experiences or situations, that might lead you the wrong way. Common sense is almost like having a sixth sense it is very UN common and in fact should be re named. Great point Alicia. My rant helped me answer a question for myself more than it answered yours. Next time some old lady questions my common sense I might have to mention this ;)

Good question! Getting wisdom in Yeshua has given me more confidence in making decisions about anything.

Throughout my years on earth, I have come to realize that common sense is not as common as I thought it was. So many people who I admire for their intellectual capability, have a difficult time in making everyday decisions, and using common sense. So is there a balance between "book sense", and "common sense"? Does having less of one tip the scale for the other so that you equal out at 100?

I believe that we all have common sense. Just like any other sense, we have to learn what it is and how to nuture it. Most of the time it develops unconsciously like any other sense. You won't know until that one day that you realize that things just aren't right and you have to do something to change them. That epiphany is just us realizing how to use the common sense we all have.

Good topic! I agree with you. There is nothing common about sense. You live and you learn. As we mature in our personal & professional lives, we should get smarter. As we get smarter/aware, our common sense becomes more acute; and we make smarter choices.

Sense is common, to respond to the sense is uncommon, many people know when it is time to pursue their gifts and talents, but in fear, we or I decide to wait and remain where it is comfortable, but not necessarily progressive. I heard something that stuck with me last night, so many of us don't want to stay, but are afraid to leave...I choose now not to continue in relationships work or otherwise with this mindset.

Understanding and achieving a balanace in common sense should be a daily practice. We are bombarded daily with issues of advanced technology which makes us lose sight of the basic fact..... life is simple and so is common sense. I
