Victoria's Secret

Psssst. Over here. I have a Secret.
Granted, it's a mere coincidence that my real name, Victoria, and initials is the same as VS (Victoria's Secret) stores or that I recruit for a group (valuation services) with an acronym VS (alright, there was no way you would've known it but I thought it was too cool to not share), I feel the pow-ah.

There's a little book that's a bestseller - maybe you've heard of it? It's called - say it with me now - The Secret.
I originally heard about it from our ubiquitous friend Oprah - well, she's one smart cookie so I knew to check it out. Plus as an author, I'm always wowed by any book that can start that much of a media frenzy and as a consumer, well I try not to get sucked in but there's a lot of truth in this little tome.

You know what? I read it a few months ago and read another book last week called The Science of Getting Rich so I just want to share some little nuggets of wisdom. Sidebar: the second book was written in 1910 but its principles still apply. The resonating theme for me was the latter part of the rich book which mentioned to always give more than you get - for instance when it comes to work, make sure your output is always more than what you receive, in other words throw your heart into it.

Anyway, both books have resonating themes like exuding a positive vibe - really putting it out there what you want FULL STOP - knowing what you want to the point where you see it, feel it, taste it, grasp it. Ask and you shall receive. Granted, it states the obvious though sometimes it helps to hear it now and again. While it has its shortcomings (after all, I don't think you simply ask and expect to receive without being realistic and making things happen for yourself such as wanting to lose ten pounds doesn't just happen by "wishing" it to happen), you have to certainly put things in motion and be ready to grasp serendipitous moments, too. And you have to block out negative thoughts as well.
Here's the essence: ask, receive, believe. Have a clear vision and most of all, give thanks.

According to both books you have to give gratitude in advance of achieving your goal. Sure, there are skeptics out there about the whole Secret phenomenon and while I don't think the author is stating anything new, I do think she has a simple point. Act like you own it, play the part, and most of all make things happen. In other words, just do it.

Absolutely. One of my mottos is "the more you give, the more you receive." There's a great story about it on my blog under philanthropy as well. I do believe in the power of attraction. It's not the only law in the universe, but it's a powerful one.
