Something About Those Axioms
Dress for success and fake it ‘til you make it are phrases that need little explanation. And there is much truth to them. Recently, an acquaintance who knew I worked from home asked if I put on makeup and dress nicely every day. I thought it a curious question, but was forthcoming and replied, “Usually,” which is the truth. The only time that I do not put on makeup is when I’m absolutely certain I’m not going to need to leave the house for errands. Those are the days I tend to feel less like someone who is ready to meet the world head on and more like a slouch. My output on those days isn’t much different, but my mental attitude is.
Some of my friends say that if they worked from home, they’d stay in pajamas all day. I don’t doubt them because their jobs demand that they dress in business attire daily and the very idea of being able to, well, slouch, is appealing to them. However, there is something about maintaining an attitude of professionalism, even if it’s just me working from my home office. Although I think the book The Secret is somewhat simple in what it shares, the single truth in that bestseller for me is that one must create an atmosphere for accomplishment and if I’m presenting myself to my mirror as a—here comes that word again—slouch, then that is how I will mentally perceive myself. I’d much rather present myself as a businesswoman ready for success and believe it to be true. Amazing what a little makeup and nice outfit can do for one’s self-image, not to mention business

Do you sometimes find yourself stuck in the muck? We all go there sometimes. It's what we do to get ourselves going again that counts. We should make a little reminder list to look at when we "go there". Sometimes we can be so caught up in the mucky moment we forget we have a way out-if only for that moment. What do you do to shake it off? Let's start with -
1. Play great music and get dancing or sing
2. Take a walk-rain or shine
3. Treat yourself to a special time out-if only to sip on your favorite coffee
4. Call your best friend and ask her how her day went-be sure to laugh
5. Seek out others you could help
6. Journal to yourself all the blessings in your life and read them back to yourself
7. Just pray
8. Take a deep breath and let it out
9. Look through pictures
10. Write 10 good thoughts
I tried to keep these a little conservative-but you get as creative as you like-it's your list. If you want to post a reply- please use only what is permissable for this website. I use Post-it notes. Some may sound silly or simple-like eat the chocolate or Yes, he is a jerk-then eat the evidence or laugh outloud! Let's get creative and write your own list of ways to get out of the muck. Post-it notes work great on your computer, bathroom mirror or dashboard. Where ever you may need a positive reminder. My relatives don't call me the post-it Queen for nothing! Little do they know that some of those notes could be for them................
