Ahh How I Long For Dan Quayle!
In my early 20’s, I remember Dan Quayle was having his 15 minutes of glory. His seemingly negative statements about America’s “poverty of values” and the lack of “family values”, was laughed at by most people. Many thought he needed to loosen up and get with the times. Funny how our hindsight or his foresight was 20/20. Look at the times now. We are still bombarded with negative images of women all day long. I am sooo over the imploding celebrities like Britney, Paris and Lindsey.
Angelina Jolie is trying to do something good and make a difference in the world, and all the media can focus on is her and Brad Pitt’s relationship status and their loud sex in the jungle. Look how they jumped on Oprah for abuse that occurred a continent away in her school that is helping so many young girls.
Are these young celebs really making use of the sacrifices that the women who came before them made? Women are still marginalized by their body organs, and any potential accomplishments women make are overshadowed by their miniskirts and sex tapes. Who’s fault is it really though? No one told them to go commando in a miniskirt, drive intoxicated with the new drug of choice, or party instead of staying home with their husband and children. Hilary Clinton basically said that Dan Quayle was “out of touch with America.” The question is who really wants to be “in touch” with THAT America?

There are many productive women who exibit self-respect and a respect for life itself. Yet, there are many, especially in the spotlight (as you mentioned) that ruin the image of women by their appearance and their unacceptable actions and therefore many women in mainstream are very often not taken seriously.
I believe in freedom to an extent. But, we, as a society, perhaps need to be less tolerant of "bad apples" and make them accountable. Decency does not get as much attention as indecency it seems, so that fuels celebs to behave badly. When was the last time you heard a human interest story about a modest, intelligent, loving woman who cares for her family, works a respectable job and lives in accordance with her spiritual values? This type of woman should be held in the highest regard and the "bad apples" should be prevented from receiving the "glory".....which ultimately backfires on all of us. The image of America is truly diminishing in the eyes of the world community.
