Don’t Wait for the New Year to Get Started
If you’re looking to change careers, the new year is either a promise of things to come or a reminder of what hasn’t happened yet. I’ve looked at it both ways, but based on my prior experience I realize that as corny as it may sound, every day really is a new beginning. You don’t have to wait for the new year to make a start.
Forget the resolutions – unless you just like making them. Start today. Start right now. Make a change you’ve been thinking about making. Just one small step, then another will eventually get you where you want to go.
Even if you aren’t getting interviews right now, you can work on your resume. Or you can attend a networking event, or do a little networking at a holiday party. Make a list of steps you’ll take after the holidays are over. Visualize your new career and see yourself in a new place. Several years ago I made a job change in November. I got to my new workplace just in time to get a Christmas bonus, even though I’d only been there a couple of weeks. Talk about good timing! If you want next year to be a great year for you and your career, start now.
