It’s That Time of Year
It's that time of year again. The office holiday party. I remember doing Secret Santa at work and the effort entailed in coming up with a fun gift that didn't exceed the price limit. (Although, I got one of the best gifts I've ever received from a Secret Santa-- one of those battery-operated devices that remove nubby things from sweaters. It outlasted all of my sweaters.)
Here's an idea for a Secret Santa at home or in the workplace that I got from a mother with enough kids to field a baseball team. You pick names out of a hat, but instead of buying a gift for that person, you commit to doing nice things--secretively--for that person for, say, a week (this mom's SS program runs through all of December--but who can be nice for that long?!) For example, in the office, you might buy a coffee for your Secret Santa person and mysteriously leave it on their desk. At home, you could quickly make somebody's bed while they're in the shower. You get the point. This family also makes a gift for their Secret Santa person, but I'm not sure how much a co-worker would enjoy your efforts in decoupage.
Anyway, it just seems that doing nice things for co-workers or family members can only engender feelings of respect and appreciation. Happy holidays!

I love that idea!
We just did a secret santa at work and the limit was $20. I could not figure out what to get until I read Allure Magazine saying that Barneys sells a great new product called Lipstick Queen for under $20
So I went in and the counter girl Allison told me to get Saint Natural (one of their shades) and it went over very well. I ended up getting a box of Godiva chocolates as my gift. Both great ideas! Chocolate and Lipsticks! Someone else got DVD's.
I think that doing something kind would be great for my kids, it teaches them kind things they could do for each other.
At work sometimes I would love a bagel without having to go outside in the cold for one.
Too bad we already did our secret santas but I will suggest this for the next year!
