RESOLUTION REVOLUTION……..NO MORE EXCUSES!

Ok, so here is my challenge to myself. By putting it in writing, I have no choice but to become more successful. If everyone is watching, I know I’ll do it. Every year we make our resolutions and at least I know, I only meet ½ of them. This is the year I want to meet or exceed ALL of them. I expect all of you to keep on me and bust me out for any excuses I might give. Now I have all the tools to take my life to the next level. Sometimes I just get emotionally overwhelmed with the stress of trying to be successful. That stress leads me right to the couch to nap. Napping is my favorite retreat from emotional overload. Here are my goals and I expect to accomplish them well before the year is over.

1. Finish self editing my book so I can have someone do the final edit for publishing.
2. Perform bellydancing in public.
3. Massage the NYPD horses.
4. Book 5 clients a day for services.
5. Get back into all my clothes that fit me great last year!
6. Get a date after a 2 year hiatus.
7. If my hair can grow that fast, I want it down to my shoulders. No more haircuts!
8. Get a positive review and mention in a magazine for my business.

This is plenty and more than enough on my plate. The only goal that really matters is #4. Making my business successful will allow me to pay the bills and continue to live so I can work on achieving all my other goals. Failure is not an option.

HI and congratulations for taking the FIRST step in determining goals by writing them down. I train bizwomen across North America in goal setting for results and I would like to add a couple of other steps for you to consider. I have found in almost every case, this is where most people fail, so I want to encourage you to do the following:
1. Take each of those steps you have listed above and continue to break them down into baby steps. For each one, you have to figure out everything you must do to make that goal a reality. Most people fail at this point. Your next list should be broad plan of action where you list broad action items for each goal. Then in the next list, you take each one of those and break it down even further into detailed plan of action. This then becomes your daily activity check list.

Yes, I know - this takes time and thought...but this is where the breakdown always occurs. You stand a much greater chance of actually reaching these goals if you follow through with these steps.

2. Then the next step in planning is to "calendar" in each activity. Actually make an appointment with yourself to start and finish that particular action item. Before you do, ask yourself two questions:
A. What OUTCOME do I need/want from this action? Once you know the outcome, then your language and actions need to be directed toward that specific outcome.
B. Does this outcome drive me close to accomplishing that goal it supports? Unless you can answer this with positive specificity, you should give serious consideration to whether you even spend one moment on that activity.

This is truly the difference in working hard and working smart. Determine outcomes necessary for goal accomplishment and then only do those activities. You will discover how much time and energy you have put into good activities but ones that do NOT send you closer to your actual goal.

I hope this will give you some ideas about how to actually put into operation the processes that will lead you to actual goal accomplishment! It takes time to get this all set up but when you do,the results are amazing!

There are other ideas if you get stuck. Remember, your plans right now are not true ACTION items and ACTION is the only thing that ever produces results! I can become part of your cheerleading team - so go for it!!

Writing is fun, editing is work! Good luck to you on all of your resolutions but especially #1 (something all of us writers can relate to). I expect to see it in bookstores soon, so edit, edit edit!
