Staying Focused

Lately I’ve been getting frustrated with my business. It seems that instead of consistent growth, it grows in spurts. I’ll get a few clients or inquiries, then it’s quiet. When things don’t go the way I’d like, I suddenly start visualizing and trying to put myself into a place where I can attract more opportunities. Unfortunately, as soon as things start to flow, I stop doing the things that were helping me.

When I went from being an employee to going out on my own, I focused on what I wanted. I was always reading uplifting books or visualizing or journaling. Now it seems hard to keep up those good habits. It’s like when I start exercising. Once I get started and get into a rhythm it all goes well until I have to miss a day – then I have to start all over again getting myself back in gear. Though I know what to do in order to change for the better, it is so easy to go back to my old ways.

So now I’m putting post-it notes all over the house. There’s no way I can say I forgot if a bright pink “sticky” is on the bathroom mirror. Guess I just have to keep reminding myself to stay focused and continue with the positive changes I’m making. Hopefully one day it’ll all just come naturally, but until then I’ve got lots of post-it notes tucked away.

I agree wholeheartedly with Working Girl. When you think about it, that's how one grows, in fits and bursts. To achieve any goal great or small, we must grow.

I have had this happen to me as well. One way I found to really keep on track was to write my marketing or exercise or anything at all that I want to do, even reading, in my daily planner. I have the calendar open on my desk and each day there are things I do such as writing a blog post, going to the gym, writing a press release, or whatever things I want to get done. This way I do each day's "jobs" and if i miss one I add it to the next day. This has really helped me to stay on track and get more accomplished without feeling overwhelmed.

Growing in fits and bursts----that sounds exactly how growth always happens. I think you are perfectly normal!
