Taking a Leap

When I first decided to leave the “corporate” or “office job” world, my friends were worried. What about having weekends and nights off? Aren’t you going to miss that consistency with your paycheck? Are you sure…?

I wasn’t sure. I rarely am. Most people who know me know of my impulsiveness. But I felt that I needed to make myself uncomfortable again, because without pushing ourselves outside of complacency, we can’t continue to grow as individuals.

I love having weekdays off. I love being able to sleep in and go to the busiest streets in my neighborhood only to find locals and peacefulness. There are fewer crowds on a Wednesday than a Saturday. And since I’m slowly growing my own business (an online web magazine profiling art in New York called Working Class), it’s key to have those weekdays off to work when the rest of commerce is in action.

Sometimes we have to take big risks to reap the long-term benefits. And feel free to visit me for the best bloody mary of your life on any given Sunday.

I totally agree about taking big risks. I wouldn't be where I am now if I weren't ready to risk the "security" of a corporate job. Yes it is also great to not have to cram my personal life into the weekend. That turned out to be a benefit of working for myself that I didn't realize I'd have.

How fair is this!?!?! Comments wanted, but you must be approved. I understand about language and all....but is that really the case. We women need to understand our power and stop trying to compete with men. We have our own energy that is far more powerful than a man's, but we have not learn what it is and how to use it. Wake up women.
