Cultivating Creativity
Ok, so I'm sitting here watching Michael Kay, a New York sportscaster, interview Snoop Dog on his tv show.
What's the deal with his lingo? Better yet, how creative! I'm on this kick, rather a trend that lasts. Remember when you were younger and had an imagination like you wouldn't believe? You would make up stories with subplots and kooky characters with your own language. You would create a song and simply start singing with lyrics that made no sense and even use words that you simply made up? Ok, maybe that was just me? (laugh!)
At a fabulous book launch party last night at the Soho House I got inspired and just have to share. I always do after all, book parties are my favorite kind of them all! Imagine, if you will, a work life without clutter. Not in the space type but rather mindframe. Imagine if you could well, just imagine. Play. Create. Let your wildest dreams soar where you're not listening to a little voice asking how it can get done, how you can afford it or what will happen if it falls flat. Rather, it's a safe place where you can create your own kingdom where you're queen bee. It's a place where you think of a product, a business, a movement, a game -- whatever -- that you simply made up and then worked around the framework to see it to fruition.
Did you ever notice when you're out for a run or a loooong walk or even in the shower how your mind just kind of floats? You start thinking what if? You start creating amazing innovative things in your head and then realize you have bills to pay, errands to run, and it just gets pushed towards the back of your agenda? Well, I want to no longer push things to the bottom of my three-page to-do list which has had "write another book" on there for a very long time. Note to self: go for more long walks and reconnect with that inner kingdom.
Oddly enough I am inspired by the Snoop (and of course, the fact of attending a book launch party is wonderful itself!) who's known for not only his career but his unique lingo. That's just it. As we cultivate our creativity in whatever nuggets of inspiration bestow upon us, here's to embracing our inner schnizzle!

I totally agree. Though it's taken me a while to let my creative self out - after over a decade in the corporate world - I'm totally enjoying it.

I occasionally find myself in the same boat – letting my creativity be stifled by a long to-do list. I try writing my ideas down and revisiting them when I’m in a relaxed state of mind. As a business woman, sometimes my instinct to plan strategically, think practically, and worry about the bottom line can hinder my creative spirit. The key, I think, is balance. It’s funny how random people and stories can be sources of inspiration – even Snoop!!
