High Hopes

I have high hopes for an economic comeback. What an economy! I have more friends, family and acquaintances of all ages and levels of experience in diverse industries looking for work than ever before. For people who have landed jobs, after long arduous searches, I’ve seen them let go in less than a year in unexpected lay-offs. LIFO accounting methods seem to apply to new hires as well as bookkeeping. What’s a person to do who is looking for a high hope comeback?

Not to make light of all of this, but I can’t help but think of the words to an old song, High Hopes. My high hopes are for comebacks for moms, dads, singles, friends, family and acquaintances. Anyone out of work and still looking, may you also have high hopes for your comeback. I wanted to spread a little cheer, so here are the lyrics to High Hopes. You can find several versions of the song on YouTubeTM (my favorite happens to be old blue eyes, Frank Sinatra). And, don’t forget to look out for all of those rubber tree plants!

Writer(s): Cahn/Van Heusen

Next time you’re found, with your chin on the ground
There’s a lot to be learned, so look around

Just what makes that little old ant
Think he’ll move that rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant, can’t
Move a rubber tree plant

But he’s got high hopes, he’s got high hopes
He’s got high apple pie, in the sky hopes

So any time your gettin’ low
stead of lettin’ go
Just remember that ant
Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant
Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant
Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant

When troubles call, and your backs to the wall
There’s a lot to be learned, that wall could fall

Once there was a silly old ram
Thought he’d punch a hole in a dam
No one could make that ram, scram
He kept buttin’ that dam

cause he had high hopes, he had high hopes
He had high apple pie, in the sky hopes

So, any time you’re feelin’ bad
stead of feelin’ sad
Just remember that ram
Oops, there goes a billion kilowatt dam
Oops, there goes a billion kilowatt dam
Oops, there goes a billion kilowatt dam

All problems just a toy balloon
they’ll be bursted soon
They’re just bound to go pop
Oops, there goes another problem kerplop
Oops, there goes another problem kerplop
Oops, there goes another problem kerplop

Thanks for reading and giving your thoughts Ellen.
I try to be a "glass half full" kind of gal. To really get the full positive energy impact of "High Hopes," check out one of the following links on "You Tube" of Frank Sinatra.

Thanks for the extraordinary level of optimism in your post. Despite the uncertainty of the times it is important that we don't lose a sense of hope. I will remember the words of this song every time I find myself feeling slightly pessimistic.

Thanks for putting some positive energy out there. It seems like every time I turn on the news or read the paper, I'm brought down by the economy.
