MAKE IT WORK
I hate having a boss. Well, it’s not the boss, but the crushing of creativity that comes with having to implement someone else’s vision. That’s why I have my own business. Thank God! Then the economy crashed. What’s a new business owner to do? I need suggestions. I need help. I need it now. I think I’m actually going to have to get another part time job. UGH. This will be my 2nd part time job on top of owning my own skin care studio. I’ll have to take a day away from my own business to make some extra money. This kills me and was not part of MY vision!
A lot of places do not want to hire someone who already owns a small business. It’s frustrating and I might have to dumb myself down to be employable. It’s a strange position to be in and I’m not sure I can do it. Doesn’t needing the money, being qualified and wanting to work my butt off enough? We’ll see what happens as I send out resumes. I hope to find a place that values my skills, knows that times are tough and I’m happy to just make some money doing what I love. On a part time basis, I know I can make it work.

A list of the best companies for working mothers is listed this week at www.w2wlink.com/Articles/Working-Mother-Magazine-Salutes-Best-Companies-artid299.aspx
Apparently more and more companies are offering flex time for working moms. I wonder how many of them would also let you have a small business of your own... or use that time to get a business started from home? At least it is cool that they offer part time employment to women now - so you CAN be a mom or you CAN start a business of your own on the side.

Hi Mgic Hands,
We are in the same boat. My busines as an image consultant for companies has falled off quite a bit. Here's my strategy - act as if you were just starting up your business. This means I go to more networing events to make new contacts. And I network as if my life depended on it!
I drove 3 hours to D.C. to attend Tori's career event there this month and made two wonderful contacts. I've always given imae workshops to Girl Scout troups so they earn a badge, and the last time I did one, I left my cards for the three troop leaders. Two called me about individual workshops. This might work for you, and think what a valuable thing this would be for young girls.
