The Flu
Well, like many folks out there, I’ve got the flu. I’m sitting in my bed, feeling pathetic, with a trash can by my side, in clear view of my Saltines, and contemplating my next move toward the fridge to get more ginger ale. Over the last couple of days, I have grown increasingly more thankful for “the little things.” The inconvenient run to the grocery store in the cold, or the potentially hot and crowded subway ride, or the meeting I have to cram into an already busy day are all more than welcomed right now. It’s been a while since I’ve realized how much I like those things, even when they seem small and sometimes undesirable. It is a nice reminder that the simple things we do in our day-to-day lives hold a certain amount of meaning and value that are worth appreciating. Having the ability to get out and about is a gift. Even little tasks should get some respect. Most certainly, I should be grateful for my mobility. I’m not a big fan of the flu, but if it gives me this important reminder; I’ll take it for now. Here’s to your health.
