I'd like to thank the Academy
It's that time of year again, well almost. Maybe it's because I'm in editorial pitching mode mentally I'm in February. Seriously though. Which means only one thing: awards shows! Have you ever watched the Oscars and envisioned yourself up there at the podium, wearing a magnificent dress with matching shoes of course, concocting your speech?
What would you say and more importantly, who would you thank? I've made it a habit of specifically thanking people I work with on a daily basis and it feels very satisfying. Even more satisfying? Having a team to rely on. For instance, I have a mentor who I go to for "life" advice as in someone I vent to and provides insight such as how to handle a difficult landlord and get that elusive security deposit back right down to the penny. There's another person on my dream team whose tenacity I admire and learn from every day. Another person has the impeccable timing to always crack a joke or ease tension in the room. Yet another person has the ability to make everyone feel important on the team and have a sense of inclusion and unity.
So although we're in the midst of a frenetic holiday season, if you could remain in a sense of calm, Academy Award winning style, who in your life would you thank and why? Better yet, what would they be thanking you for and why? Just some food for thought.
